PRESS RELEASE

The more mirrors there are the more glorious is the intimacy of a room, all be it more turned in upon itself”                                                   (Jean Baudrillard. “System of Objects”)

For his first solo show at The International 3 Stuart Edmundson uses easily accessed materials to create images and objects that bring together textures, colours and forms that insist that the viewer acknowledge and question the space they have become a part of.

Edmundson pieces together reflective glass shards, cut and angled to implicate the viewer, and further complicates this dialogue by fixing photographic prints of exotically desirable palm treed views on 3D assemblages next to rotating colourful, bright, abstracted paintings. These individual constructions become one experiential installation of sometimes competing elements. With looped sound and visual abstraction Edmundson creates an absorbing spectacle, a richly textured experience that although potentially chaotic is complete. Awkward and humorous, recognisable yet unfathomable. Stuart Edmundson has exhibited nationally and internationally and has recently completed residencies in Dresden, Germany and St.Gallen, Switzerland. He gained his degree in painting from University of Central Lancashire and an M.A. Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University. He lives and works in Manchester.

The International 3 has commissioned a text by Sacha Craddock to accompany the exhibition.
