As part of our contribution to DIALOGUES at London Art Fair, The International 3 is presenting Maeve Rendle’s performance, ‘on summary in freedom’ as part of the fair’s Talks and Performance programme.

In this work, Rendle considers the idea of thinking freely, and explores the point at which imaginative, free thinking is lost as literal interpretation takes over. Using a novel to explore ways in which reading and writing are simultaneously the tools and trappings of knowledge and creativity she equates the mental space one occupies when reading with the physical space one seeks out in a desire to think freely. This space becomes the freedom which enables inspiration. The critical question she asks is: how do we free ourselves in reality without losing our freedom in thought ?

Maeve Rendle was born in London in 1980 and lives and works in Manchester. She studied at Nottingham Trent University (2003) and at Manchester School of Art (2005). Recent exhibitions and projects include a solo exhibition at BLACK, Salford (2014), Innsbruck International (2013), The Way We Do Art Now, Tanya Leighton, Berlin, Unframe, a solo exhibition at Grundy Gallery, Blackpool (2010), Unresolved, Castlefield Gallery, Manchester and Radical Obsolescence, an editions project by Manchester School of Art in collaboration with Ceri Hand Gallery (2009). Maeve Rendle was longlisted for the Northern Art Prize in 2008. Maeve’s solo exhibition, Gretta’s Gabriel, Gabriel’s Gretta will launch at The International 3 in December 2015. In January, Maeve is also exhibiting in Die Dritte Hand / Last Exit Painting at Salon Dahlmann in Berlin.

DIALOGUES is a section within Art Projects at London Art Fair. It has been curated by Anna Colin (Curator: British Art Show 8). For DIALOGUES, 5 UK based galleries have been partnered with an international gallery to deliver joint presentations at the fair. Alongside Maeve’s performance, The International 3 is also presenting a solo booth of Hannah Dargavel-Leafe.
