PRESS RELEASE

THE INTERNATIONAL 3

After 25 years of working together, most recently as co-directors of The International 3, Laurence Lane and Paulette Terry Brien have decided to conclude their collaborative working relationship at the end of 2017. This brings to an end the activity of The International 3 as a gallery and consultancy organisation.

Of their decision, Laurence and Paulette say:

When we began working together in October 1992 we had no idea that we were setting off on a 25-year journey. Over that time, we have had the great pleasure of working with so many different artists and collaborators; initiating and presenting hundreds of exhibitions and events and we are proud to say that we achieved all this through a working relationship built on a shared vision and mutual respect.

The decision to close The International 3 has not been easy, however we both feel that together we have taken the organisation as far as we can and we are keen to independently explore new avenues. Our long-standing friendship means that we will continue to be involved in each other’s lives and our long-standing commitment to the North West means we will continue to be involved in the creative life of the region.

We want to thank Arts Council England for their continued support, our patrons, partners, friends, families, funders, colleagues, collaborators, collectors, clients and audiences for their continued commitment, but most of all we want to thank all of the artists we have worked with along the way. These artists have inspired, challenged and humbled us with the quality of their ideas and their willingness to share and trust us with their practice.”

In mid-November, Paulette will be take up the role of Curator at the Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool and Laurence will continue his creative practice through Forest School Leadership and freelance activities; and while the 2017 edition of The Manchester Contemporary will be The International 3’s last as curatorial co-ordinator, Paulette will continue her engagement with the fair via a place on its steering committee.

However, before things conclude, Laurence and Paulette are keen to stress that there is still lots of activity to engage with including The Manchester Contemporary which takes place from 27-29 October at Manchester Central with details of other activity being delivered via The International 3 website / Twitter.
