PRESS RELEASE

JOE FLETCHER ORR / Mummy’s Boy

Preview Friday 18th March 6pm – 8pm / Open : Weds-Fri 12pm – 5pm (other times by appointment) Closed: Friday 25th March

For his first solo show, held at the The International 3 in September 2014, Joe Fletcher Orr planned to show a rug (Orranorco, 2014). The rug emerged from a boast made by the artist’s father that he could make a rug better than any sold on the family’s market stall. However, the rug was late and a stand in rug had to take its place until the last day of the exhibition, when it finally arrived and was installed. Since then, the Arts Council Collection has acquired Orranorco for its collection. For his second solo exhibition, Orr continues to explore collaboration, artwork/non-artwork via an enquiry of what it means to be a ‘Mummy’s boy’. The show includes plant-pots that the artist has produced at a local pottery class with his mum, fruit bowls from the family home that have been photographed by a professional photographer and painted walls, (the colour chosen by Orr’s mum during a trip to B&Q). Mummy’s boy sees Orr continuing to shine a light on the parental relationship using a process that is, in part, similar to the idea of getting your parents to do your homework.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a commissioned text from Oliver Basciano, Editor (International) at ArtReview. An ‘In Conversation / Q&A’ will take place between Joe Fletcher Orr and Adam Carr (Curator at Mostyn I Wales, and independent curator and writer) at The International 3 on Thursday 21st April from 6pm – 8pm. (more details to follow)
